Marketing 101: Product Differentiation

I was walking downtown this evening on Queen St. and came upon a young man panhandling on the sidewalk.  I’ve lived in Toronto long enough now that I’m fairly inured to panhandlers and squeegee kids and normally I’d walk right on by.  But this guy’s neatly-lettered cardboard sign caught my attention.

“Will accept verbal abuse for change.”

I dug into my pocket for a toonie, tossed it his way and (perhaps too loudly) called him a cunt.

If I was starting a new company and needed to staff a marketing department, I’d hire him.

  1. He he … that’s hilarious! On a stressful day I would be tempted to get a pocketful of change and go hunt him down.
